Today I’m releasing a song that means more to me than I can easily put into words.
Little Soul – a song from my heart, was written for my daughter, out of wonder, love, and the moment I realised what life was really about.
Before becoming a mum, I often wondered what gave life its deeper meaning. And then suddenly, there she was. Tiny hands and feet. A little human sleeping safely in my arms. A laugh and a smile that filled my heart in a way I had never experienced before.
This song came from those quiet moments, watching her sleep, holding her close, and feeling a love so deep it reshaped everything I thought I knew about myself and the world.
The story behind the song
Little Soul is not about overwhelm or struggle.
It’s about clarity. Purpose. And the kind of love that feels powerful, grounding, and deeply rewarding.
The lyrics reflect that realisation, that creating life and caring for this little being gave my life a new sense of meaning. A love I never imagined before motherhood.
It’s a gentle song. An honest one.
A reminder of how much can change when a little soul enters your world.
A very simple recording
I recorded a version of Little Soul in my shed – raw, intimate, and stripped back. Musically, Little Soul begins in a very simple, intimate place – just voice and guitar, leaving room for the story to sit gently. As the song unfolds, soft layers slowly appear: a second, gentle guitar, subtle vocal harmonies that drift in and out, and the quietest percussion created by me tapping my guitar. These elements build almost unnoticed, creating a sense of momentum as the song grows. By the time it reaches the bridge, the sound opens up into a broader picture, reflecting that moment where the story lifts from the personal into something bigger, wider, and more hopeful, the meaning of life!
